As the table shows, local factors are critical for effective design of air-intake systems. Absolutely essential in the planning of air-intake systems are information on dust concentration (depending on local agriculture, industry, or arid zones) and on precipitation and relative humidity (e.g., for installations in coastal areas).

Local space circumstances likewise play a key role. The available space will determine the intake-flow conditions, in addition to choice for U-shaped configuration of the filters, or for V-shaped arrangements of the filter units. The design process must, furthermore, take sufficient account of additional pressure losses occasioned by the filter-system configuration selected.
