3 types of plate heat exchangers

Principle and Operation

This type of heat recovery system consists of a compilation of metal plates mounted in a rigid frame. The cool fresh air and the warm extract air pass through the exchanger (cross-flow, countercurrent or double). The mixing of the two air flows and the transfer of contaminants, odors and bacteria is therefore impossible. There are three types available:

  • Cross-flow plate heat exchangers
  • Countercurrent plate heat exchangers
  • Double (cross-flow) plate heat exchangers

    Type

    ECOPLAT cross-flow plate heat exchanger

ECOPLAT & ECOPLATE PLUS countercurrent plate heat exchanger

ECOTWIN double (cross-flow) plate heat exchanger

    Operation

    Kruisstroomwisselaar Tegenstroomwisselaar Dubbele platenwisselaar

    Installation

    Air flow

    Max. 25,000 m³/h

    ECOPLATE PLUS =
    Max. 8,000 m³/h
    ECOPLAT =Max. 2,250 m³/h

    Max. 25,000 m³/h

    Yield

    Ca. 85% according to EN308

    Ca. 80% according to EN308

    Integration in

    CAIRplus, COM4plus

    COM4mini, COM4plus, ATpicco, CAIRplus

    CAIRplus, COM4top, CAIRpool, CAIRfricostar

    Specific features

Air flows normally within AHU in countercurrent (direct current is also possible)

Recommended for applications with low flow rates

Supply and extract air stay on the same level throughout the AHU

    Bypass

    • Recovered energy can be controlled through a bypass
    • The bypass valves must be equipped with a modulating actuator
    • The fresh air can be bypassed (freecooling and frost protection). For ECOTWIN the extract air is also bypassed (energy savings).
    • The fresh air bypass is necessary for applications with extract air with a relative humidity of >45%, low outdoor temperatures and at high efficiencies

    Features

    • Long service life & easy and flexible in use
    • No humidity recovery
    • Direct heat exchange without intermediate medium
    • Static exchanger, no moving parts (except for the bypass valves)
    • If there is no demand for heat recovery and in freecooling mode, the air side pressure drop across the recuperator and along the supply and extraction side almost equals 0 (energy savings)
    • Category I according to EN308
